MacZOT and SubEthaEdit

April 25th, 2006

I’ve used SubEthaEdit from CodingMonkeys for awhile now. It hasn’t always been my #1 choice for PHP IDE, however, it is a really sleek product. It’s got some features that no other editors have, primarily focused around the collaboration abilities. The idea is that multiple people can use and edit the same document, something we see all the time at work.

BLOGZOT 2.0 on MacZOT.com is a neat thing - where you can either blog or buy your way to a free copy of SubEthaEdit. But you have to act fast, it’s a “today” kind of scenario. The idea is that MacZOT and TheCodingMonkeys will award $105,000 in Mac software, in the form of SubEthaEdit licenses, to mac users who participate in this extravaganza. It’s really cool, and certainly nice to have more quality native Cocoa apps out there. It’s also nice to see that the Apple community is getting great software into the hands of the masses.

MacZOT is great. Awhile back, during MacWorld, I won a copy of AppZapper, which is a fantastic uninstaller that not only uninstalls the .app file, but also the .plists and all other associated files. It’s a great clean up tool for people like me who install all sorts of junk just to try it.

One of the drawbacks, I thought, of moving to the Mac platform from Windows and Linux was the lack of Freeware. Now that I’m there, not only is there plenty of Freeware, but the quality of many of the pay-for apps, such as Panic’s Transmit, SubEthaEdit, Appzapper, and BBedit are really top notch. It’s hard to find this stuff on Windows for less than $149, and on Linux, you can find the same things, except not nearly as visually appealing, and crammed with 200 extra features.

In short, try SubEthaEdit. It’s cool. And check out MacZOT, which is also really great.
